This week’s runaway Tool Bag of the Week is winner is Roger Clemens. You haven’t heard much from the Roger Clemens camp lately mainly because he’s busy trying to develop a time machine so he can go back and fix the last 6 months of his life.

When he was named in the Mitchell Report, he had the opportunity to address the issue, to offer his explanation, and to put the story to rest. He had the chance to take a path not taken by Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, or Rafael Palmeiro. He had a chance to be open and honest. The general public would have eventually forgiven him for any past steroid use, but only if he was honest, genuine, and remorseful. But he wasn’t…he was arrogant and in denial. He truly believed that he was above criticism, that his hired guns would crush any opposition. Well, Clemens is the one who has opened his life to criticism far beyond steroid use. Now, his personal life has become fair game and his extramarital relationships with Mindy McCready, Paulette Dean Daly, and whoever else are all coming out in the open.

Let this be a warning to other celebrities who believe that they are above scrutiny. If you are accurately accused of something, man up to it…especially if there are very few legal ramifications. The public will forgive you over time. But the public doesn’t like to be deceived. If you cross us, we will bury you.
